Post Publications is a small independent company based in the Scottish town of Crieff.
The company, run by local artist Peter Brock, has produced community magazines for the past 10 years, with Print Me It, printing them for the past six.
The bi-monthly magazines feature a combination of local features and photographs showcasing the area and business advertisements which cover the publication costs.
The magazines are given away free of charge to the local community and were previously able to be picked up in newspaper shops in the town. However, due to the number of newsagents that remain in Crieff, Peter is now looking to have them distributed via local attractions within a 20 mile radius where readers can pick them up.
His magazines have been popular as he targets both young and old readers. He says; "The younger readers tend to enjoy learning about the history of the town looking at some of the old photographs we publish."
He added; "I use the magazine to promote my work and tell stories about Crieff. My readers seem to enjoy the nostalgic tales it includes."
The magazine has led to further opportunities for Peter as schools will often approach him to help support their projects with the photographs he has taken over the years.
Peter has one competitor in Crieff, however, he says that his customers love Peter's publication The Crieff and District Post magazine as it has more local and Nostalgic features.
The magazine has changed over the years from an A4 edition to A5, with the pages ranging from 20 to 32 depending on the number of companies placing adverts in it. Some of the advertisers have been with him from the start including a company who has advertised on the front and back pages of the magazine in every issue.
Peter studied Art and Design at Dundee and he is in great demand for Cartoons illustration, for promotional cards, leaflets and greeting cards. He works on cruise ships teaching Cartoon Art. He is well known, as Pedro, throughout the UK drawing caricatures, drawing spot Caricatures at weddings, functions and more locally at the famous Crieff Hydro Hotel.
Today Peter finds his commissioned work is seasonal with much of his work creating greeting cards and illustrations especially for Christmas. His aim for the next chapter in his career is to try to spend more time painting. As a keen walker with his Collie dog, he often finds inspiration for his work on his rambles.
Working from home these days, Peter also produces an annual calendar for the town near Perth, which is sold for a small fee. The stapled brochure, which is also printed and designed by Print Me It, is a popular publication. The calendar features local photographs and local business advertisements.
When his old printer went out of business six years ago Peter turned to Print Me It to help him with his magazines. Peter sends Print Me It his adverts for us to do the page layout as well as create designs.
